The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu, MP, on Wednesday joined the Minister of Energy, Honourable Dr Jean Mathanga, MP, at the launch of the Electric Mobility Regulatory Framework and Net-Metering Rules.
Held under the theme, “Accelerating Malawi's Energy Transformation through Regulated Electric Mobility and Distributed Generation,” the launch marks a significant step towards promoting clean energy, sustainable transport and increased investment in renewable energy.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Energy, Honourable Dr Jean Mathanga, MP, said the new regulatory frameworks would enable households and businesses to generate their own electricity and supply surplus power to the national grid, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources and promoting a cleaner, more affordable and sustainable energy future for Malawi.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable urban development through the promotion of modern, resilient and environmentally friendly cities. The adoption of electric mobility and renewable energy solutions presents opportunities to support more sustainable urban infrastructure and improve the quality of life for Malawians.
